American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Web site of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy based in Washington, D.C. Allows you to select a therapist by nearness to you or state. Contains a few essays on therapists' role in divorce. The site itself deals with the full range of family therapy issues, including, for example adolescent behaviors, depression, sexual problems, and alcohol and drug addiction. Stepfamily Association of America, Inc. Web site of the Stepfamily Association of America, based in Lincoln Nebraska. The site features articles, the opportunity to buy the several books and tapes on step-parenting, and a list of local chapters of the association. Cornell's Legal Information Institute Cornell Law School has an active project to put and find laws on the web. On this site, you can select "Law about..." and then select "Family, marriage and Children." Under the headings "Family Law / Divorce," you can pursue pages to look up the state laws in several states as well as the Uniform Laws. (Uniform laws are law proposals that are then adopted by some states -- sometimes all states -- on a state-by-state basis, often with state-specific changes.) Lawyers.com While not representing any organization, the Martindale-Hubbell lawyer locator is perhaps the most comprehensive site for listing lawyers. Allows you to search for "Family Law" practitioners in your area. Also has some legal explanations and message boards. Father's Rights To Custody This non-profit web site is filled with informative articles that aim to help fathers get custody, and understand and be prepared for the steps in a successful custody contest. The site also contains an excellent set of links to father's support pages. Kayama A New York-based non-profit organization that advocates for, and provides information and assistance for obtaining, a Jewish divorce (known as a "get"). Single Parenting Association Single Parents Association (SPA) is a nonprofit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona. Its offers events at which single parents get together and learn valuable things about parenting and living life as a single parent. The web site is a good way to learn about the organization and to find a chapter near you. There is also a list of recommended books. Step Family Foundation The Step Family Foundation, based in New York City, has been working on helping step families since 1976. This is their website. It offers a listing of stepfamily counselors (mostly in the New York / New Jersey area, but including about 20 states and 5 countries). It also offers books and tapes on a variety of topics relating to being part of a step-family. Children's Rights Council Formed in 1985, the Children's Rights Council (CRC) is a national non-profit organization based in Washington, DC that works to assure children meaningful and continuing contact with both their parents and extended family regardless of the parents' marital status. Among other things, the group advocates for joint custody legislation, to enact state laws that prefer joint custody and shared parenting, and to encourage divorcing couples to rachet down the acrimony and prefer mediation. American Psychological Association The web site of the American Psychological Association contains press releases and studies covering the entire range of the study of psychology. There may at any given time be interesting articles about divorce in society, but the site is not focused on divorce. International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors. The International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC) is a division of the American Counseling Association. Its mission is to help family counselors. This is its web site, which describes the requirements and benefits of membership and lists books and videos for sale. American Bar Association (Family Law Section) U.S. Department of Census Government figures on divorce as of 1992 Infidelity This web site is aimed at helping both the people who are in adulterous relationships and the "cheated-on" spouse. There are several articles about why people commit adultery, as well as active bulletin boards on various related topics. You can also do things like find a private investigator. About.com Divorce Section Moderated by Pat Gaudette, a publisher of print and Web publications dealing with divorce, this area of About.com features numerous articles written by Pat and others covering various aspects of divorce. The site has articles on adultery, alimony, children, stock options, dating, the decision to leave, and many other topics. It also includes bulletin boards, chat, books, and videos. Dads Divorce Developed primarily by Joseph Cordell of St. Louis, Missouri, this site is oriented toward helping fathers gain custody. Several screens of information describe the legal steps such as temporary motions, discovery, settelement, conferences, and so on. The site also features an "Expert Answers" area, bulletin boards, and excerpts from Mr. Cordell's book, "Civil War." DivorceInfo About 200 pages of helpful information about divorce posted by Lee Borden, a lawyer and divorce mediator based in Birmingham, Alabama. He also sells a $100 package of forms and advice called "Plans for Parting." The site also features active bulletin boards, a list of recommended books, and a nice set of state resources. DivorceDoc Developed by a psychologist, David John Berndt, this site has helpful essays on various aspects of the divorce, from a psychological perspective. New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators This web site is designed both for mediators and for individuals seeking mediation services. For mediators, it features a description of mediation standards, as well as a listing of the organization's board. For individuals, it features a list of mediators in New Jersey.
