Divorce Reform Page A fairly extensive collection of articles and statistics in support of the idea that divorce should be made harder to obtain. Developed by an individual named John Crouch, 2111 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 550, Arlington, Virginia 22201. American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers This is the official site of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Includes links that will help you look up state statutes and rules of court. Also includes a list of member attorneys. Also has several long essays on topics like the divorce process, "Stepping Back From Anger," and "Making the Marriage Last." American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Web site of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy based in Washington, D.C. Allows you to select a therapist by nearness to you or state. Contains a few essays on therapists' role in divorce. The site itself deals with the full range of family therapy issues, including, for example adolescent behaviors, depression, sexual problems, and alcohol and drug addiction. Stepfamily Association of America, Inc. Web site of the Stepfamily Association of America, based in Lincoln Nebraska. The site features articles, the opportunity to buy the several books and tapes on step-parenting, and a list of local chapters of the association. Lawyers.com While not representing any organization, the Martindale-Hubbell lawyer locator is perhaps the most comprehensive site for listing lawyers. Allows you to search for "Family Law" practitioners in your area. Also has some legal explanations and message boards. Single Parenting Association Single Parents Association (SPA) is a nonprofit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona. Its offers events at which single parents get together and learn valuable things about parenting and living life as a single parent. The web site is a good way to learn about the organization and to find a chapter near you. There is also a list of recommended books. Step Family Foundation The Step Family Foundation, based in New York City, has been working on helping step families since 1976. This is their website. It offers a listing of stepfamily counselors (mostly in the New York / New Jersey area, but including about 20 states and 5 countries). It also offers books and tapes on a variety of topics relating to being part of a step-family. Children's Rights Council Formed in 1985, the Children's Rights Council (CRC) is a national non-profit organization based in Washington, DC that works to assure children meaningful and continuing contact with both their parents and extended family regardless of the parents' marital status. Among other things, the group advocates for joint custody legislation, to enact state laws that prefer joint custody and shared parenting, and to encourage divorcing couples to rachet down the acrimony and prefer mediation. American Psychological Association The web site of the American Psychological Association contains press releases and studies covering the entire range of the study of psychology. There may at any given time be interesting articles about divorce in society, but the site is not focused on divorce. International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors. The International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC) is a division of the American Counseling Association. Its mission is to help family counselors. This is its web site, which describes the requirements and benefits of membership and lists books and videos for sale. American Bar Association (Family Law Section) New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators This web site is designed both for mediators and for individuals seeking mediation services. For mediators, it features a description of mediation standards, as well as a listing of the organization's board. For individuals, it features a list of mediators in New Jersey. Mediation Information & Resource Center (MIRC) Mediation site, which articles on divorce mediation and a substantial data base of mediators. Institute for Equality in Marriage This site is inspired and supported by Lorna Jorgenson Wendt, who famously won over $20 million in a Connecticut divorce case about the value of a "corporate wife." Divorce and Finance Association of Divorce Financial Planners. Members specialize in various aspects of the divorce planning process.The members are located in NY, NJ, CT, MA.
