Question: How Can I Get Files from my Assistant Who Works Off Site?

Answer: If your assistant has access to your network, you may simply click Files Tab > Save As, and save files to the network drive, from where your assistant may load them.

Assuming your assistant does not have access to your network, there are several approaches you may consider and try.

1. Send a File to Self

Assuming that your assistant is using the same keycode as you are, your assistant may click Files tab > Send File to Self > Send a File to Yourself.

To get the file, you click Files tab > Get Files > Download.

Probably, this is the best method.

2. Send File to Anyone

If the method above does not work (for example, if a firewall prevents this from working), the two of you can e-mail client data files back and forth.

Select Files tab > Send File to Anyone. Enter the recipient's e-mail address.

The recipeint should download the file into his or her Family Law Software folder, then open it from within the software.

You can identify the Family Law Software folder by looking in the Files tab > Open/Save Files screen, at the top. You will see the the words, "The current folder is:" followed by the path to your Family Law Software folder.

3. E-mail files.

If the method above does not work (for example, if a firewall prevents this from working), the two of you can e-mail client data files back and forth.

You may e-mail the data files as an attachment to an e-mail, using Outlook, GMail, AOL, etc.

When it comes time to attach the file, the first place to look for the files is: My Documents / Family Law Software.

If they are not there, go back to the software, click Files tab > Open/Save File, and at the top of the screen you will see the the words, "The current folder is:" followed by the folder where your files are being stored.

4. Electronic Data Entry.

For the initial data entry, you can pretend that your assistant is a client and click Files tab > Get Client Started.

Enter your assistant's e-mail address and the client name and click the link on the screen.

After your assistant has transmitted the data to you over the web, you may click Files tab > Get Client Data > Download.

This may be the least effective method because it will work only for the initial data entry, and not all fields may be entered this way.
