NEWTON, Mass. (Reuters) - Just in time for Valentine's Day, two Massachusetts entrepreneurs have launched Family Law Software, a package of advice and software products intended to help smooth the breakup for couples whose marriage is on the skids.
Family Law Software is the brainchild Daniel Caine and Wendell Smith, who developed Kiplinger's popular TaxCut software.
About one million couples divorce each year in the United States. And an already emotional process is exacerbated by what Caine said could be the biggest financial transaction of a person's life.
"It's just amazing how much money can be saved with proper planning and good advice," said Caine, who is 43 and "happily married" for 15 years.
The site offers emotional support, at one point urging readers to "click here if you are pretty angry right now."
Customers can also buy various software programs at the site, http://www.FamilyLawSoftware.com, such as a child-support guideline calculator for $39 or a package of five different divorce calculators for $49.
The products are meant to be used in conjunction with professional help, Caine said. "This is the kind of thing that people won't know they need until they see it."
And the pre-Valentines Day product launch? Pure coincidence, says Caine.
