Notes

Updated tax tables for 2001 for each filing status.

For student loans, the maximum deductible goes from $2,000 to $2,500 per year.

The standard deductions have been increased slightly for inflation for 2001.

The exemption amount for dependents has been increased from $2,800 to $2,900 per exemption.

The point at which the phase-out of exemptions for upper-income taxpayers begins has increased slightly for inflation.

Updated the amount of income from which social security is withheld to $80,400 from $76,200.

Updated the insurance example in the chapter on insurance to reflect 2001 rates.

Updated the narrative about expected stock market returns in the chapters on assets and IRAs.

Updated the list of tax rates in the chapter on personal information.
