Notes

This edition introduces a new products, the Arrears Calculator and Family Law Software Professional.

In addition, this edition reflects the revised Massachusetts Child Support Guidelines, which became effective February 15, 2002.

The changes tended to narrow the range of percentages that apply to income, increasing the percentages of income for lower-income payers, and decreasing the percentages a bit for upper-income payers. Recipients are able to earn a bit more money before their income reduces the child support they receive. The revisions eliminated the spikes that occurred when people hit an income threshold level; now, the payments rise smoothly with income. Some people will pay somewhat more and some will pay somewhat less under the new guidelines.

Problems and Errors Fixed

In updating the Massachusetts guidelines, we fixed a problem in the Massachusetts Child Support Calculator program that might under-report the income if the payer was also making support payments on account of a prior marriage.
