Release Notes...

Release Notes for Version 6.05, released April 20,, 2004

The main focus of this release is to enable a clearer and more intuitive property division.

1. Specification of Separate property. Now, with all assets except for Personal Items, it is possible to specify separate property interest in the asset for each spouse. Except for Pensions, where separate property is calculated, you may enter the separate property amount directly. It is also possible to specify the portion of the husband's separate property that is being allocated to the wife (and vice versa).

2. Specification of Marital property. The property that is not separate property (in most cases, the full amount) is marital property. You may then divide the marital property by percent or amount. So you may say, "The wife wants to keep $10,000 of equity in the stock," or "The wife will keep 50% of the marital portion of the stock's value." Value is now specified as a percent of marital value (not, as before, a percent of total value). Since, in most cases, the full value is marital, there will not be much change in general.

3. Property Division. In the screen where you negotiate Property Division, we now display the bottom line for both total property and marital property. As a result you can divide the property with an eye to how a court might do it (marital property) and see the impact on actual net worth including separate property (total property).

4. Previously, the Alimony and Child Support Negotiation screen was not working if a Child Support Guideline Calculator state was linked. Now it works properly when a guideline state is linked.

5. Living Expense line item titles now may not be changed. Previously they could be changed, but then the items would not carry to the Affidavit or Guidelines forms. For clarity, we made them fields that may not be changed, so data does carry to the Affidavit and Child Support Guidelines.

6. Data entry for businesses is streamlined and clarified. Business debt is now being treated as a marital asset.

7. Small bug fixes: Assets were not correctly reflecting the buyout notes of corporations. Business debt was being subtracted from the non-recipient party in some cases even if requested not to.
