Release Notes for Version 6.15, released Oct 25, 2004

This release adds the ability to print any report to an editable file, and fixes some issues with residence sales.

Enhancements to all editions:

1. Print to File. You may now print any screen or report to a text file. You may then edit the text file in Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, or another Word Processor. The instructions below describe how to use this feature.

To print to the file:

  1. Bring the report you wish to print onto the screen.
  2. From the very top menu, select File/Print to File
  3. Give the file a name.

To view and the file:

The software will give you an opportunity to open the file using the default Windows program. Say "yes."

To move the data to Microsoft Word or Word Perfect

  1. While viewing the text, press "Ctrl-A" to highlight all the text. (Or select Edit / Select All.)
  2. Type "Ctrl-C" to copy the text.
  3. Open your word processor (typically Microsoft Word or Word Perfect).
  4. Start a new file.
  5. Type "Ctrl-V" to paste the text into your new file.
  6. Select the "Courier new" font (or any other fixed-width font).

Notes:

There is no bold or underline formatting. We export only the basic text.

  1. Once you load the report in your word processor, you may want to set the margins to be wider than usual, so the text does not wrap in the middle of a line.
  2.  You may save the file in a different folder if you specify the complete path ("c:\…") when you name the file.
  3. Some complicated layouts may not print correctly. Feel free to bring those to our attention, and we will try to improve those spots.

2. Residence sale. We fixed two issues. The first one was distorting the taxable capital gains when a home was sold in the same year as there was a negative net income, and there was taxable gain to pay on the home. The second one was not reporting the last year's mortgage payments in the year the home was sold. Both are now fixed and should be working correctly.

3. Totals button. The totals button is now available with every module (that is, every tab) except "Arrears," "Pension," and "Calculator."

Enhancements to Professional Edition Only

1. Details on Scenarios. We have added a new button, "Details" to the top of each column of Scenarios. When you click that button, you will get the same screen as when you click the "Totals" button, only the numbers will be for the current scenario. You may print these reports by clicking the "Print" button at the top of the screen.

2. Names for scenarios. You may now give each scenario a name. The names will print with the Details reports.

3. Residence Screen Reorganization. We have reorganized, streamlined, and clarified the data entry screens for Residences.

4. New Residence reports for Sale of Home. We have added two new residence reports. The first one shows how we calculate the amount of money the parties will clear on the sale of the home after mortgages and all expenses. The second one shows how we calculate the taxable gain on the sale of the home. To get there, click Residences, then "more info," then "Click here if the home is currently owned," then "Sale of home (click if home will be sold)."
