Release Notes...

Release Notes for Version 9.05, released May 15, 2007

Web data entry. We have made it free for clients to enter their data on the Web and transmit it to you. Also, we have made it easier. There is a new screen on the Files tab called "Get Clients Started." From that screen, you may click a link that sends an e-mail to your client. That e-mail, in turn, contains a link for the client to click to begin entering his data on our website. When the client is finished, he clicks the button on the web page to transmit the data to you. When the client does that, we will send you an e-mail notification. When you get that e-mail, you then click Files > Get Data. And so, the entire process is simplified and streamlined. Please note that we have no way to combine two different client files. Please either designate one spouse to make the data entry, or tell both spouses to use the same logins and passwords so that they are entering data in the same set of web pages.

Professional listing. We have now added a free professional listing to our website for every subscriber. To modify your listing, click Home tab > Professional Info > Click here to modify your listing on Family Law Software.

File locking. It is now the case that if two people are using the same file on a server, the second person will be warned that the file is already in use. The second person may then open the file as Read Only. If the second person wishes, he or she may save a copy of the file and continue with that. It is still possible to overwrite a file that someone else is using, but you will have to go through a couple of layers of warnings in order to do that. This should make it considerably easier to use Family Law Software in office settings where multiple people are accessing the same files from a server.

New York Child Support Worksheet. We have added a new child support guideline worksheet that more clearly delineates the three types of support: Basic child support, support on incomes above $80,000, and add-on support.

Percent to Spouse. On the Lawyer tab, it is now the case that the percent of property to be kept by the first named party will be shown at the top level -- unless you specifically request it not to be. (You can make that request by clicking the link to set the screen options that appears at the top of the Assets & Liabilities screen.) The presence of the %-to-party field will help clarify the cash flow. For example, if an asset is specified to be divided 50-50, then income from that asset will also be divided 50-50.

Fixes:

Pennsylvania Quick Child Support. The amount entered here is now flowing correctly from the quick calculator to Income/Expenses and to child support guidelines.

Removed Liquidations from the One-Page Summary. We removed liquidations from the One-Page Summary.

Generic Affidavit and Pennsylvania Affidavit. Entries with negative values (e.g., a residence mortgaged for more than it is worth) will now be displayed as negative numbers.

Web Data Entry. Improved handling of non-numeric entries in number fields (. NA, etc.).

Mortgages over $1 million. We had been deducting mortgage interest on all mortgages, even mortgages over $1 million. Now, we will total the balance of all mortgages for payments being made by a given party. If that balance is over $1,100,000, we will allow only interest on the first $1.1 million. (We are treating all mortgages as purchase money mortgages. The additional 100,000 is allowed for home equity mortgages.)
