Florida Law - Until What Age Does Child Support Typically Run?

The typical age at which child support stops is age 18, though the court may permit it to run until the child graduates high school.

Child support may continue longer by agreement of the parties, especially if the child remains a student.

Section 61.14(1), 743.07(2).

Cases:

Hunter (1993) 626 So2d 1069 (child support should ordinarily terminate at age 18, or the date the child marries, becomes self-supporting or dies, whichever comes first).

Nicolay (1980) 387 So2d 500 (court may order increased alimony to finance a child's college education up to age 21; court did not decide the question whether child support, as opposed to alimony, could be ordered for children over age 18).
