The Ahrons Study Found Fathers Increasing Custody, and Spouses Relocating.
The
Ahrons study
found a trend to
increasing father custody among older children. It also found that
people moved away, possibly making large blocks of custody at the
other parent a more attractive option.
-
In 6 of the 98 families, by the third year, 2 switched to
paternal custody and 4 to split custody. By the fifth year, 2 more
switched, 1 to split and the other to joint.
-
By 5 years post divorce, 11% of the spouses lived more than 300
miles apart.
