Anxious
Everett and Toby have all kinds of anxieties, including the following:
-
Attractiveness. They are worried whether others will find them
attractive, now that they're heading back to the dating scene.
-
Financial. Everett is anxious about how he is going to afford child
support and his new apartment. Toby is anxious about paying the
mortgage and buying the kids new clothes. The kids are getting two
sets of a few things, to have sets at both apartments. And Everett and Toby have
divorce-related bills for lawyers and therapists.
-
Independence. Everett hates to do
it, but he has decided to give Toby more alimony than he initially
expects, so she can take some extra classes. He expects that her
increased earning capacity will then reduce the need for alimony
later on. Toby is very nervous about being on her own financially, but she avoids the temptation
to try to "take him for every nickel." These are very helpful attitudes
that will hasten both their recoveries from the trauma.
-
Children. Both of them are, justifiably, anxious about the
children. The single most important thing they can do is to both remain a big
part of the children's lives, and leave their own dispute totally out of
the children's lives.
-
Employment. Women who are entering the job market after a long
period as a homemaker, or for the first time, are very anxious about
whether they will be able to find work. It is often difficult for a
single mother to find adequate work.
