Competitive With Your Ex-Spouse Alison left Andrew. Andrew is out to prove to the world that Alison is worthless. He finds himself emotionally locked in an intense competition with her. He wants to sleep with lots of women, to prove that he is more attractive than she thinks he is. He wants the children to love him more, to prove that he is a better parent. He might also compete to see who can earn more money. He occasionally cleans his apartment cleaner than their marital home, to show that he can do his share of household chores when it's fair to be doing so. To keep score, Andrew needs to obtain detailed information on how Alison is living her life after the divorce. Andrew enlists the kids to give him detailed information. This competition locks Andrew into focusing on the old relationship. It prevents him from starting a new, happy life on his own. Andrew needs to let go. He needs to allow Alison to become just another human being, who may have faults, but whose faults are no special concern of his.
