Emotional Well-Being of the Parents After the Divorce
These numbers reflect part of the core analysis of the
Wallerstein study
: how good was the divorce?
-
Ten years after the divorce, 80% of women and 50% of men say the
divorce was the right thing to do.
-
Ten years after the divorce, in 2/3 of the couples, only one partner is
doing better than before the divorce. The other is doing worse:
lonely, unhappy, anxious, depressed.
-
Half the women and one third of the men are still intensely angry at
their former spouses ten years after the divorce.
-
Half of the women who did not remarry reported one or more of
the following symptoms (which can be influenced by mental condition):
colds, headaches, backaches, constipation, migraines, colitis, high
blood pressure, jaw pain.
