Law...

Prepare to present your Case

Does your lawyer have a lot of experience with cases in your income and property range?

If your lawyer mostly handles "higher end" cases than yours, you may be over-billed. If your lawyer mostly handles "lower end" cases than yours, you might not get the expertise you need.

Also, check out your lawyer's reaction to the fact that you are prepared. Does he or she become quiet or make the process seem mysterious? Then stay away. The process basically boils down to a negotiation between you and your spouse -- no mystery at all.

Or does he or she seem glad that you're on top of things and make helpful additional comments? This is more what you want.

Also, browse through the "Law" tab in the program to see if there are any unusual legal issues in your case. Has your lawyer seen these issues before? What happened in those cases.

Finally, note the tax issues that the program spots. Does your lawyer have experience with them?
