Ways to Find Financial Assets Here are some ways to find your financial assets. Watch the mail, and note all the return addresses for a period of at least three months. (Most financial management companies send statements at least once every three months.) If you don't know what is in any envelope, especially one that looks like a bank or fund company, find out. Also, if your husband is organized, you may be able to simply go to his financial records and photocopy everything. If you have an accountant, you may be able to ask the accountant for a list. But this might "tip off" your husband, so be careful here. Another source of information is the tax return. Check in particular the income and dividends section (Schedule B) and the capital gains section (Schedule D) for the names of financial assets or of companies where you might have an account. Many companies have automated account balance information lines. If you know your ID number and password, you can simply dial up and get the account balances.
