Can I Get Alimony Before The Divorce Is Final?
In some cases, if it appears that you will be entitled to alimony when
the divorce is final, a judge will grant you temporary alimony during
the divorce proceeding.
This is called alimony "pendente lite," which means, alimony while the litigation
is pending.
This is to enable you and the children to survive during the proceeding, and
to prevent your spouse (usually, the husband) from "starving you into submission."
