Motion for a Restraining Order

A motion for a restraining order is a request to the judge that he (or she) order a spouse not to do something, during the negotiations.

The spouse is being prevented ("restrained") from doing something he or she might otherwise do.

A typical restraining order requires a spouse not to empty the bank account, or not to trash the family business.

If you are afraid your spouse will do something in the financial sphere to hurt you, you might ask for an order like this.
