Percent of Redivorces by 1990 In 1990, out of all women who had divorced and remarried, 29% had re-divorced. The following numbers show the percents of numbers of women who had been re-divorced, as a fraction of the number who had been remarried. The numbers for older women reflect two contradictory trends. There may have been a smaller tendency to redivorce in the generation now age 50-54. On the other hand, these women have had more time to decide to redivorce. The census bureau has not sorted out the effects of each of these trends on the numbers. But it helps to explain why, in the oldest group, the total redivorced actually goes down. These women are from the previous generation, where marriage and divorce were less common.
