Sexually Awakened
Christina finds herself having a number of brief liaisons in a short
period of time. Promiscuity is often a response to feelings of
insecurity or lowered self-esteem.
Christina is proving to herself after years of
emptiness that she can be attractive. She is also rediscovering with
relief and excitement the joy of physicality after a fairly numb time
in the marriage.
Lowell has a number of affairs too, partly, in his case, to compete
with Christina. Lowell's feeling of competitiveness with Christina may
indicate that Lowell has not really let go of the marriage.
Both Lowell and Christina fear commitment. This is natural and healthy
early on. They will do better in another relationship if they manage to really
understand what happened in this one. Each spouse can help himself or herself most
by focusing on how he or she contributed to the problems.
