We Are Afraid to Face Our Own Insecurities
Another reason we do not communicate honestly is that we are afraid to face our own insecurities.
For example: From his childhood upbringing with a father who always put him down, Henry has a fear
of ever being wrong. As a result,
he reflexively tries to prove that everything Nancy says is wrong, rather than evaluating honestly
what she is saying.
If Henry could allow himself to be wrong, he could accept what Nancy is saying objectively.
This certainly would make Nancy happier, and at no real cost to Henry.
