Indiana Law - Life Insurance On the Payer.
In Indiana there are no specific laws relating to life insurance.
However, the court is free to require, as part of its order, that the payer obtain life
insurance on his own life, with the children as beneficiary, in order to provide for
child support in the event the payer dies before all the child support payments have been made.
Porter (1988) 526 NE2d 219 ($500,000 of term life insurance ordered to secure child support
obligation of $375 per week plus $3,120 per year for clothing, plus medical expenses, plus camps
and lessons).
Dahnke (1991) 571 NE2d 1278 (court may order continuation of life insurance policy which would
benefit the children).
