Massachusetts Law - Misconception: The Legal System Is Interested In "Justice."

Although the criminal legal system may be interested in justice, the family law system in Massachusetts (and every other state) typically is not interested in justice.

Forgetting for a moment that it is often not clear exactly what "justice" would mean, the laws of Massachusetts direct the courts to be primarily concerned about:

• The welfare of any children.
• The living standards of any children.
• The living standards of the spouses.
