Michigan Law - Must The Payer Keep The Children On His/Her Health Insurance? If there is any child support, the court will also require a parent who has access to health insurance to provide health insurance for the minor children, as long as that insurance is available at reasonable cost. The parent's health insurance may be either through an employer or as a self-employed person. Section 25.96(5).
