Michigan Law - What is the "Marital Portion" of a Business?
In general, the marital portion of a business is the increase in value in
the business during the marriage.
The cases in Michigan tend not to deal with an exact delineation of the
marital portion of the business, because the judges have broad authority
do divide the assets according to what they think is fair under all
the circumstances, rather than being bound to strong guidelines about
dividing marital property in a set proportion.
