Michigan Law - When Can Child Support Awards Be Modified? Child support awards may typically be modified whenever there is a significant change in circumstances. Typical changes include an increase or decrease in the income of either party. The question is, if child support were recalculated, would a significantly different result (10% higher or lower) apply? If yes, then a court would consider modifying the child support order. Section 25.97 Sec 17(1) Cases: Wiersma, 241 Mich App 56 (The court declined to allow the parties to contract to terminate child support when wife remarried).
