Michigan Law - What is the "Separation Date"?
The separation date is the date at which one party leaves and does not return.
In some states, this is a critical date because debts and earnings become
the separate property of each spouse at that date. In Michigan, however, the
court has wide discretion to divide both pre-separation and post-separation
property, and so the exact separation date has less importance.
