New York Law - What is the "Separation Date"?

The filing for the divorce action is usually the separation date.

Cases:

Stempler (1994) 607 NYS2d 111 (separation date tends to be date of filing for divorce).

Olivio (1993) 604 NYS2d23 (separation date is date of filing for divorce).

Anglin (1992) 592 NYS2d 630 (separation date is filing for divorce action, but court has wide discretion about what to do about property that is acquired between filing of separation action and filing of divorce action).

Capasso (1987) 517 NYS2d 952 (if closing for property acquisition happens after for divorce action is filed, property may still be "marital," if negotiations and contracts to sell happened several months earlier).
