Cases: Richards (1994) 615 NYS2d 784 (starting point for divisions of marital property is 50/50). Kaplan (1993) 604 NYS2d 519 (a key goal of property division is to reduce reliance on spousal maintenance, which tends to unnecessarily perpetuate the relationship). Grund (1991) 573 NYS2d 840 (half of most marital assets distributed, but only 1/4 of value police officer's pay for unused vacation, sick leave, and other benefits (after taxes), since wife's contributions as wife and homemaker were less with respect to those assets than the other assets). Butler (1991) 574 NYS2d 387 (75/25 allocation where initial contributions were 86/14). Pagan (1988) 526 NYS2d 685 (80/20 in favor of wife, 42 years old, with criminal record, unable to work). Thomas (1988) 535 NYS2d 736 (starting point for divisions of marital property is 50/50). Kawasaki v Kasting (1986) (65/35 in favor of husband, where his earnings were 81% of total family earnings, marriage was childless and of 10 year duration, both had made significant non-monetary contributions toward maintenance of marital property and business, and each was capable of self-support).
