Ohio Law - Misconception: The Legal System Is Interested In "Justice."
Although the criminal legal system may be interested in justice, the family law system typically is not
interested in justice.
Forgetting for a moment that it is often not clear exactly what "justice" would mean, the laws of
most states direct the courts to be concerned about:
-
The welfare of any children.
-
The living standards of any children.
-
The living standard of the spouse who has not worked (if this is the case). In many states, the
concern is that each spouse, if not already working, becomes able to work or support himself or
herself as soon as possible.
