Texas Law - Sole Custody

The parent who has sole custody has the following rights and responsibilities:

  • Decide where the child lives.
  • Consent to medical, dental and surgical treatment involving invasive procedures (such as surgery), and to consent to psychiatric and psychological treatment.
  • Receive child support.
  • Make legal decisions for the child.
  • Consent to the child's marriage and armed forces enlistment.
  • Make decisions about education.
  • Receive the child's services and earnings.
  • To be the child's agent in financial affairs, except where the court has appointed a guardian for the child.
