Attorneys and clients often wish to know what child support would be in situations where the combined income is higher than the top of the child support table.

There is a way to calculate this, known as extrapolation.

One way to extrapolate is to take the incremental child support for each dollar of incremental income at the top of the chart, and just continue that marginal incremental support per dollar of income upward.

That is the method that Family Law Software uses.

Colorado law does not provide for extrapolation, however.

For that reason, the Colorado Judiciary has forbidden us from printing child support guideline worksheets with extrapolated amounts.

We have found a compromise: the child support amount will be calculated at the top of the table without extrapolation, but we will place a comment on the guideline worksheet showing the extrapolated amount.

If you want to enable this extrapolation, check the box at the bottom of the wages section on the sheet where you enter the child support guideline information, as shown below.

The amount will then appear on the child support guideline worksheet as a comment, as shown below.
