Beginning September 1, 2025, New Jersey family law practitioners will be required to use the new Case Information Statement (CIS). New Jersey has also introduced subtle but important updates to the child support worksheet and calculation. Family Law Software Cloud is already up to date, offering a streamlined CIS and integrated child support guidelines. We will review the implemented changes to the software below.
New Jersey Case Information Statement (CIS)
In nearly every family law case the parties are required to file a CIS. This detailed financial statement helps guide the court in determining child support, alimony, and equitable distribution. Key September 2025 updates include:
Seasonal and Occasional Expenses
A new Schedule D has been added for seasonal and occasional expenses such as snow removal, lawn care, maintenance, and vehicle registration. These items have been moved from Schedules A and B into the new category.
New Asset Categories
- The revised CIS now includes four new categories of assets:
- Cryptocurrencies
- Children’s accounts
- Income tax carryover losses, prepaid taxes, refunds, and credits
- Any other asset not otherwise listed or disclosed
New Liability Categories
Two new liability categories have been added: Tax liabilities and “Other categories of liability not listed or disclosed”.
Streaming Services and Subscriptions
Schedule C now includes a dedicated line for streaming services and subscriptions. This category covers expenses such as cloud storage, mobile device fees, computer services, and similar costs.
The updated CIS form is already available in Family Law Software Cloud. Desktop users will need to update their systems to see these changes.
New Jersey Child Support Updates
Federal regulations require every state to review child support guidelines every four years. While these reviews don’t always produce major revisions, New Jersey’s latest update will lead to higher child support orders in many cases.
Specifically, the state has updated Appendix IX-F: Schedule of Child Support Awards.
For example, under the new schedule, if there are two children subject to an order, and the Parent of Primary Residence (PPR) has 245 overnights with a net income of $1,045 per week, while the Parent of Alternate Residence (PAR) has a net income of $2,007 per week, child support will rise from $219 to $276 per week.
These adjustments are based on Dr. David A. Macpherson’s 2024 analysis of 2013–2019 Consumer Expenditure Survey microdata, using Rothbarth marginal cost estimation techniques.
As always Family Law Software is committed to providing the most accurate, current, and user friendly implementations of both the New Jersey child support guidelines and the Case Information Statement.
